Candy safety
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Halloween food safety tips for parents:
- Give children a light meal or snack before they go out, and ask them to wait until they get home so you can check their treats.
- Do not let children eat anything that is not commercially wrapped. Throw away anything with signs of tampering, such as pinholes, tears in wrappers or an unusual appearance.
- If your child has a food allergy, check labels, and do not allow home-baked goods.
- For very young children, remove choking hazards such as gum, peanuts, hard candies and small toys.
- Serve only pasteurized juice or cider at parties.
